Our Community Drawing
I can document and reflect upon the mini-lessons and art production experiences I completed this semester in ITE 326, Visual Arts, Elementary.
I can create a title for this art experience:
Creating a Community!
I can describe the instructional strategies used as a motivation for creating my own work of art:
With your group members, draw out your own community. Include whatever you want to make up your own special community.
I can cite a HCPS III in the Visual Arts and the Benchmark I feel this lesson meets:
Standard 1: VISUAL ARTS: Understand and apply art materials, techniques, and processes in the creation of works of art and understand how the visual arts communicate a variety of ideas, feelings, and experiences
Benchmark: FA.K.1.3 Create art that expresses feelings about a familiar subject
I can list the materials I used:
-Poster paper
-Color Pencils
-Pencils
-Sharpies
I can reflect on my personal involvement in the creative process during this art experience, and how I would inspire my students to feel positive about this experience:
My group chose to do a half urban and half rural community. We all knew the basics that we needed in a community like houses, and a school. We then included a farmers market where we would get our fresh veggies. After we had our necessities, we could put in fun stuff like a Starbucks, Target, In-n-Out, & Disneyland. Each member of my group was able to add in specific places that we wanted to include. Students can feel inspired to create their dream communities with places that they love.
I can modify this experience to provide art instruction for different grade levels. List 2-3 ways:
-Ask students to create a list first about what they think should be in a community. (Activate background knowledge to see if students know what a community is and what exists in a community)
-Have students draw their own community.
I can 2-3 different ways to integrate other subject matter into this lesson:
-Math (Ratios, homes vs. stores)
-History (Ancient civilizations)
I can list 2-3 teaching skills that I can use as a teacher from this lesson:
-Having students collaborate in group activities
-Teaching how to create lists
